The 300 is undoubtedly a better engine. The 200 is basically a DI version of the old TurboD, with an alloy head and some other improvements. It had to be made on the same tooling as the TD to keep the costs down, so the block, crank etc is all the same as the older engine. The 300 has a redesigned block, crank, rods, pistons, and is generally a turbos do something called "Spool up" this is the time it takes to spin up. the longer it takes the more turbo lag you have. the wastegate has a pre-set pressure. this will open at a pre set boost level. a bigger turbo will produce more power but take longer to spool up and smaller spin up quiker but less power.
I have determined my 300 tdi engine oil leak is coming from the oil pressure warning light sender; it appears to be dripping from the electrical contact area. I ordered PRC6387 but have found the treads are wrong - too big. The threads on my leaking sender appear to be M10, and the part is tapered at the end. Anyone else run into this problem?
Nov 17, 2012. #1. Right, so here's the facts: Light grey smoke on startup. Plumes of smoke coming out of the exhaust. Happens mainly for about 20 minutes after startup. Smoke comes out often when descending hills, or when foot is lightly pressed on the throttle. Smoke disappears when accelerating or taking foot off accelerator completely. 3wLjm.
